THE MICROECONOMICS SERVICE
In the village of Cameau a group of young, educated adults have established a microeconomics cooperative. They are using this cooperative as a way to generate funds, and give out loans, and equip area farmers with finances to help work the land. In fact, they have already given out loans up to $300.00 (US)has been extended to a total of 20 villagers of Cameau. This has been helping the area merchants and farmers to purchase a more diverse product line in greater quantities. This project was initiated jointly by the director of OHMES and HPSP. It is now being replicated in Northeastern Haiti.

DUMAS PROJECT

While Haiti was celebrating its bicentennial independence in 2004, HPSP planned to dedicate a memorial consisting of a library and a monument to the Dumas family on the plantation where General Dumas was born, which is near Jeremie. General Dumas is the father of the famous author of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. The general was born of a former slave, Cesette Dumas, who conceived the child from her noble French master, and lent her name to 3 generations of prominent writers and statesmen. The purpose of this dedication is to highlight the cultural importance of that area, and promote tourism. This will, in turn, spark further economic activities in the entire southern Haitian peninsula including the city of Jeremie, which is rightfully called “the city of the poets.” HPSP invites volunteers and visitors to explore the sites of the plantation near Jeremie, and donate to the project.
HPSP plans on dedicating the library and the monument at their completion.

HPSP IS SEEKING MONETARY GIFTS AND BOOKS FOR THE PROJECT TO BE REVITALIZED.

Sustainable Living Project

With the help of municipalities of the villages of Trou Du Nord and Sainte Suzanne,  we are currently developing sustainable living projects in Northeastern Haiti between the Haitian And Dominican borders. The purpose of these projects is to help the populations become self-sufficient and be better prepared to overcome the challenges of future natural disasters such as hurricanes. Such agricultural material like seeds, fertilizer, water-pumps, greenhouse canopies, power generators are badly needed to allow the people to grow their own food and develop more adequate water supplies.

THE FURCY SCHOOL PROJECT

The village of Furcy is the embodiment of a successful project where education, re-forestation, ecotourism, and agricultural activities flourish.

For several years, the Furcy elementary school has been completely renovated, and the academic performance has improved. This has been accomplished by the combined effort of a dedicated team of education and community advocates. The project as a whole has had a positive impact on the surrounding communities, making Furcy a model for other communities to replicate.

HPSP is currently supporting some aspect of the reforestation by helping to maintain tree nurseries in the village of Furcy.

HPSP continues to gather materials and school supplies to support educational activities in that village. Volunteers and teachers are welcome to participate and hold workshops and training programs.

BATEY'S SCHOOLS & INTERCULTURAL PROGRAMS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

In addition to supporting two elementary schools in the Bateys near Santo Domingo, HPSP is also promoting an intercultural program for Haitian and Dominican youths to study each others' language and culture. Grant proposals are ready to be submitted to finance trade school and university programs on both sides of the island of Hispaniola.

We are progressively developing activities for Haitian and Dominicans to participate in, and learn from each other. Such initiatives will serve the purpose of promoting academic and cultural exchanges between Haitians and Dominicans, and in turn, will foster better relations between them. Other forms of activities, such as support and excursions, will also serve to promote intercultural exchanges.

HPSP organizes an average of 2 trips a year to the Dominican Republic, and we encourage participation by people of various backgrounds. We are calling on students from both sides who are interested in contributing to our program. In addition, HPSP is also requesting families to open their doors to these students on both sides of the border. Lastly, HPSP is also gratefully seeking people willing to make financial contributions to this program.

GIFT & BIBLE DISTRIBUTION

Every Christmas, HPSP distributes toys to poor children in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We are seeking both volunteers as well as financial support to continue this Christmas project. HPSP will also accept French, Haitian Creole, and Spanish Bibles for distribution to these children. We encourage volunteers to join us on our annual trips to the Caribbean to either Haiti and /or the Dominican Republic. Participants usually enjoy these trips while bringing the joy of the holidays to these destitute children.
